Political parties want us to believe that elections and politics is an epic struggle between Good and Evil. This certainly is a great story for getting votes, but it isn’t true. Politics is often about issues very specific to here and now. And it is often about coercion. In the midst of this, Jesus invites people from all sides to follow Him. While others are looking for political change, He is seeking deeper and more important change. His ministry was characterized by directing people from the here and now to the Kingdom of God. Many times when we invite people to become Christian, we mix it up by tying in unnecessarily the expectation that they need to convert culturally as well. This can be a hindrance to people coming to know Jesus.
