Sabbath: The Hardest Commandment to Keep? (Sermon Audio)

sabbath

As we continue in this season of Lent, the lectionary has us learning from the ten commandments. And it’s interesting to notice that the most time and words are spent on the commandment to keep the Sabbath. Is this because it’s the most difficult for us to keep? Pastor Bum explores the commandment of keeping the Sabbath and its implications for us today. Listen to the audio below!

Rest

Many of us ascribe to the adage, “We sleep when we die.”  This attitude is deeply embedded in our culture — our heroes are people who press beyond their limits, who sacrifice sleep, health, and relationships to create something impactful and important.

But as believers, we face a tension because our God commands us to have a healthy rhythm of rest and work and to create space and time for Him.

In this message from Matthew 11-12, Jean shares with us a message about Sabbath rest — how it’s been speaking to her during her Sabbatical, and how Jesus invites us into complete rest.

Rest

God’s command for us to rest on a regular basis is something we might acknowledge as healthy, but also something that many of us don’t do well. Vacations leave us more tired than when we started, we fill our days off with social commitments, and often our free time is spent mindlessly consuming media.  It would benefit us greatly to understand the why and how of rest, which is why we spent three weeks exploring what God has to say about it.  Listen to each sermon below.
