Upside-Down & Inside Out
Category : Recent Sermons
We are in the middle of a new sermon series that is taking us through the summer: Upside-Down and Inside-Out – a wrestling with Jesus’ words to His followers in the Sermon on the Mount.
There’s a line in one of the books in C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia which can help frame our mindset. In it, one of the characters is learning about the Jesus-figure of the story (a lion named Aslan), and she asks the question, “Is he safe?”
The response she gets is, “No, he’s not safe… but he is good.”
As we look at the Sermon on the Mount, we discover the same thing: Jesus isn’t inviting us into a safe existence, rather He is inviting us to follow Him in the upside-down and inside-out kingdom He’s come to usher in. It’s not safe, but it is good.
